The things I have to endure

lowres A few weeks ago, I moved to a new apartment, and unfortunately, my internet hasn’t moved with me yet. A friend was kind enough to lend me his 3G Wireless USB modem, so I could still raid. Unfortunately, I’m running Windows 7 on my home PC, and the modem doesn’t work with that. Believe me, I tried everything except converting to Christianity, but it just wouldn’t bulge.

I then resolved to transfer World of Warcraft over to my laptop. This laptop is really just a work PC. Its great for carrying around in my manpurse, and it live up to its purpose in life: Typing. This means, however, that the graphics card it runs with is horrible. It doesn’t even have a specific name, its just called “Standard PnP screen of infinite lagspikes”.

I’ll admit, I am a bit of a snob when it comes to gaming – if I “have” to spend many hours dragging my butt through a game, it has to look and feel good. So imagine going from my wonderful, 24 inch widescreen monitor and my three month old gaming PC, completely pimped with whatever I could find when a lightning strike took out my last machine, and replace that with a 15 inch laptop that can barely open WoW-Europe.com.

I mean, look at it (picture)! I am used to running 50-80 FPS with everything on max, and now I am struggling to reach 3 FPS during a boss fight! I have had to start pressing my spell a good second before I wanted it cast, if I had to switch between wrath and starfire. My cast bar had two stances: empty and half full. The rest never show! I find that I have cast not one but two wraths after my lunar eclipse procs, simply because the damn bucket wont register that I am now spamming another button. It’s a slideshow of badly animated pictures, not a rich, 3D MMO.

I comfort myself with the fact that I have adjusted to this disabled form of playing. Just yesterday, my DPS on Faction Champions 25 heroic put me as the 11th highest moonkin, according to World of Logs, so at least I can manage and stay ahead of the game. In 15 minutes we start on Anub heroic, and I dread the lag of us all bunched up AOEing, and all the dynels moving around.

I symphasize with others that are dealing with this on a daily basis, but thankfully my normal line will be set up tomorrow, and I can ditch this hobo computer and play in Paradise again.
