Just thought I would cover some of the initial druid changes on the PTR. I say “initial”, because I really hope this isn’t the last we will see. Ghostcrawler said they wanted to give us a burst ability for PvP (which might spill over into PvE), and acknowleged that moonkins was too dependant on eclipse, while at the same time passing on two quite solid suggestions in the druid forums.
So it is a bit disheartening to see the following:
- Nature’s Grasp: Now has 3 charges, up from 1.
Great for PvP I suppose. Definately not bursty, but anything helps the dueling moonkins, I suppose.
- Starfall: Te damage done by this spell has been significantly increased.
Great. In reality, it increases the initial hit by an average of 140 damage, and the splash damage by 23 damage. This gives it another 2.800 damage on a single target, or 3.260 for two targets. Not a massive buff, but a buff none the less, though it can hardly be considered a burst to do 2,8k more damage over 10 seconds.
- Typhoon: Mana cost reduced to 25%, down from 32%.
Allow me to take a moment to jump up and down. We now save 245 mana on each Typhoon. Joy.
I really hope that this is not the last thing we have seen to moonkin buffs this patch. A lot of other classes are getting some really nice buffs, and I do think we should get some love as well. Never the less, it’s not like the patch is out yet, so we might see more stuff coming soon.

Yeah, buff of Starfall is nice but small!!!
I really hoped for some spell like Arcane Barrage – doing decent damage, with some coolldown, and instant (!). But it will not happen imo (
Lets be fair, another instant is not really what we need. We need something that haste can affect.
Hm… PVP: The Nature’s Grasp might be a bit too good for Resto and Feral druids, when kiting meelees. It sure is useful for a Moonkin, but so it is for the other trees.
Typhoon… It’s true, it’s insanely expensive, even with the change. In PvE it’s a non-issue, since I regenerate enough. But in pvp it is and still will be destroying the mana pool, and since the other spells are not really cheap either, I will still be sitting down drinking in a BG after every next enemy.
Starfall… Well, if it’s a flat increase, it’s not really what we need I’d say. But it might aswell be better in scaling now with spellpower.
.. I don’t want to edit my text, but have a look at Gray Matters blog, it seems there is more to starfall
I must correct myself: People much smarter than me (http://graymatterwow.blogspot.com/) has found some information that I didn’t even consider: Spell coefficient. It seems that starfalls spellcoef. is increased from 0.21 to 0.37, which makes it look quite lucrative. It seems like a big increase all of a sudden
Now I’m adding something anyway… Well, I just though about the consequences the Nature’s Grasp change may have. I won’t post this in the official forums, since my account is not located in a good area, that the devs would notice
As you all know, we can only root one target at a time. Now, imagine an arena match, where you want to root the meelee on you. Nature’s Grasp activated, nice, no problem, you are save. But now you’ve got still one or two charges. Now, the pet (DK – ghoul) or the arena partner can simply hit you once and the rooted person is free.
Further, it might actually not be desired to root the same target multiple times (DR). So, imagine a Rogue stunning you. he is rooted now, and keeps hitting… The Buff activates 3 times, and he will be free and on DR as soon as your stun ends.
In the whole picture it’s a good buff anyway, since you can simply make a macro to cancel the remaining buff if desired.
What would be good is if we got a 10% damage increase from Natures Grace along with the cast time reduction. Failing that an increase from our insect swarm and moonfire
omg this is better than nothing. i have t10.5 and can already get crits with starfire anywhere from 13-15.5k so cant wait to see how much dmg i will do now. rofl and im sure as soon as this patch comes out, people are going to qq about resto druids being op. ah good times, cant wait
Errrr…
I don’t know about you, but im critting upwards of over 20.000 with starfire. You should too!
Also, the change is to star*fall* not star*fire*.
